Website Development Cost: What Drives the Price in 2026

·A1

What a custom website costs, what the figure is actually made of, when a site builder is enough, and how to compare two quotes that differ threefold.

Two agencies quote ₽200,000 and ₽600,000 for what sounds like the same website. Neither is lying. The difference sits in things the quote rarely spells out — and those are exactly the things worth asking about before you sign.

What does website development cost in 2026?

Guide figures for the Moscow market, quoted in roubles:

  • Landing page — ₽80,000 to ₽200,000. One page, a single offer, a form, analytics. Two to three weeks.
  • Corporate site — ₽250,000 to ₽600,000. Five to fifteen pages, services, cases, news, bespoke design. Five to eight weeks.
  • Online shop — from ₽400,000, and above ₽1,000,000 with a custom engine.
  • Ongoing support — from ₽10,000 per month.

These are ranges rather than a price list. A quote at the bottom of a range usually means a template and stock photography; the top means original design and content written for you.

What is the price of a custom website actually made of?

Four components, and it is worth asking how each is priced:

  • Design. How many screens are drawn from scratch rather than adapted from a template. This is usually the largest single share.
  • Build. Turning layouts into working pages, plus forms, filters, calculators — anything with logic behind it.
  • Content. Text, photography, product descriptions. The item most often left out of a quote and most often the reason a launch slips.
  • Integrations. CRM, payment, delivery, accounting, analytics. Each connection is a separate piece of work regardless of how simple it sounds.

A quote that names one number without this breakdown is not comparable with anything. Ask for the split before comparing.

Why are site builders cheaper, and when are they enough?

A site builder removes the build stage entirely: you assemble pages from ready blocks. For a landing page, an event or a first test of demand that is the sensible choice — a few thousand roubles a month and live within days.

The limits show up later. Page speed is what the platform gives you. Search engine settings go only as far as the platform allows. Bespoke logic — a calculator with your own rules, an unusual checkout, synchronisation with your accounting — either cannot be done or is bolted on with workarounds that break at each update. And the site lives on someone else's platform: you cannot take the code with you.

A reasonable rule: if the site is a shop window, a builder is enough. If the site is part of how the business runs, build it properly.

What does support cost after launch?

From ₽10,000 a month for a corporate site and from ₽15,000 for a shop. That normally covers platform updates, backups with a tested restore, small text and image changes, monitoring, and help when something breaks.

What it typically does not cover: new sections, new features, redesigns. Agree in advance what counts as a change and what counts as new work, and at what hourly rate — this is where most disputes start.

What affects the development timeline?

Content, almost always. Design and build follow a predictable schedule; texts and photographs do not. A site with content ready goes live in the quoted time. A site waiting for someone to write the service descriptions waits for weeks.

Second is the number of approvers on your side. One decision-maker means one round of revisions. Three means design approval alone can take a month.

Third is integrations with systems that belong to someone else — a bank, a delivery service, an accounting package. Their timelines are outside everyone's control and worth building into the plan from the start.

How do you compare two quotes that differ threefold?

Ask both parties the same six questions, and compare the answers rather than the numbers:

  • How many screens are drawn from scratch, and how many adapted?
  • Who writes the text, and is it included?
  • Which integrations are in scope, and which are extra?
  • Who owns the domain and hosting when you are finished?
  • Is the source code handed over, and on what terms?
  • What does the warranty cover, and for how long?

After those answers the two quotes usually turn out to describe different jobs — and the gap stops looking like a discount.

Where should you start?

With what the site is for and how you will know it worked. Enquiries, calls, orders, applications — pick the measure first. That single decision settles most of the argument about which pages you need, and it is what turns a quote into something you can judge.
